MATCH RECAP

"HELLMUTH BASH I"

POKER AFTER DARK IS A FLUSH WITH THE FANS

THE LINEUP

Hellmuth finished the week up over $130K and answered the question: what do you give the man who has everything? More evidence that he’s the greatest living No Limit Hold ‘em player. The Magician and the Businessman were both down $100K. Dwan was in the same money pit, but managed to climb out. Down more than $100K, he went all in with only an eight high against Safai’s two queens. Dwan’s gutsy play paid off. Safai folded and kicked off Dwan’s turnaround and a grudge-match that lasted all week. It seemed like the poker gods were rewarding Dwan after that. He and Esfandiari were in a pot that reached $116K and Dwan spiked a one-outer, third queen to beat the trip-sevens Esfandiari had flopped. Esfandiari had to break out a cash-filled manila envelope – “a poker player’s best friend” – and buy in for another $100K.
