“I might’ve taught you everything you know,” starts the famous movie line, “But I didn’t teach you everything I know.” It’s a sentiment the pros must’ve been thinking with every pot they scooped from their famous protégés. It wasn’t that Alexander, Cheadle or Hershiser played poorly. They didn’t. Each of them won hands against the pros. But ultimately they were gunned by men who’ve stared across miles of felt and flipped over thousands and thousands of cards. It would’ve difficult for anyone to beat Smith. After winning all of Alexander’s chips, was the overwhelming chip leader for most of the match and could pick his battles. Even though the match was over in record time, the celebrities held up admirably. The celebrities played poker a lot better than Gordon could act. And there’s no chance Greenstein could ever make a TV show about nothing funny. Or Smith throw a sinking fastball past Mark McGuire in his prime.
