Four WSOP bracelets, 1998 WSOP Main Event winner
Scotty Nguyen was born in Vietnam. His family encouraged him to flee the hardships of his native country and find prosperity in America. The journey wasn't easy, but the decision has paid off in spades.
Scotty learned the game of poker as a dealer in the casinos and card rooms of Southern California. He studied the habits and patterns of both winning and losing players and quickly put that information to good use when he moved to the other side of the table.
In 1997, Scotty won the first of his four WSOP bracelets. The next year would see the biggest of his victories, as he won the 1998 WSOP Main Event championship. On the winning hand of the event, Scotty famously told his opponent, "You call, gonna be all over baby." His opponent called, and it was all over.
In addition to his four WSOP bracelets, Scotty also has one WPT championship. He is one of only five players to win both a WSOP Main Event championship and a WPT title. In 2007, Scotty nearly made the final table of the WSOP Main Event, finishing 11th in a field of over 6,000 players.
An emotional player, Scotty is famous for saying "baby" and "yeah baby" at the table. He coined the phrase, "that's poker baby" in reference to players taking a bad beat. Scotty is one of the most highly respected players in the game today. He truly is a prince among thieves.
