Don Cheadle is an actor who puts humanitarian causes center stage
Don Cheadle worked regularly in television for ten years before his breakout role as Mouse Alexander in the 1995 drama Devil In A Blue Dress. His portrayal of a 40’s era gangster was one of the most memorable of the year. Since then, he has appeared in a variety of popular films including Boogie Nights, Out of Sight, Swordfish, Crash, the Ocean's Eleven series, and next year he’ll be in Iron Man 2.
His most celebrated role to date was in 2004’s Hotel Rwanda. The film was based on the true story of Paul Rusesabagina, a hotel manager who saved over a thousand Tutsi refugees from being massacred at hands of Hutu militiamen. For his performance, he was nominated for the 2005 Academy Award for Best Actor.
A celebrity with a conscience, Cheadle has repeatedly used his status to draw attention to social issues. He is heavily involved with efforts to stop the crisis in the Darfur. Cheadle launched "Live For Darfur," a series of events in which many celebrities helped raise awareness about the genocide.
Along with Annie Duke, Cheadle co-founded “Ante Up For Africa” which has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for humanitarian efforts in troubled African region.
